Who or what controls televised "free press"? It seems odd that when there is so much truly important, and in fact, critical news in the world, what is often chosen as news-worthy is Hollywood gossip. Is televised news a Propaganda machine, or am I just a bit paranoid?
Try this, while watching the news, "channel surf" to the other major network's news programs. Chances are, they will be presenting the very same story at the same time, and in the same tone if not the same words. Do all the different networks receive a script specifying what they broadcast as news and when?
I mean, why would the national television networks decide that the top news story of the day is, for example, a celebrity's personal crisis, yet not one of them bring up the Darfur situation, or Global Warming, or advances in alternative energy, or the dying Oceans, or any number of other stories that truly have relevance to today's world? And wouldn't you think that even if the different stations had many of the same stories that each would present them in a slightly different order?
Want entertainment? Watch TV. But if you want real news, get it somewhere else.
