This series of 21 photos were taken on July 1 2000. They begin at the
southern end of the penninsula at the bend in the Westfield river and go to the Fill. As much as I love the park, and especially this part of it, I must be fair. As wrong as it is to walk off-trail, Mom is right, something could happen. Except during the colder times of the year I always, yes always, find Ticks! I have never found a deer tick (the vector for lyme disease), but they're unwanted company just the same. And just stop moving a bit too long and.... Mosquitoes! They are annoying and unwanted as well. On the bright side, the penninsula supports a large group of sycamore trees in the depression. It's probably the closest you can get to water level without getting your feet wet.Slide Show pages: "FIFE" to "A" - "A" to "B" - "B" to "C" (Rail) - "B" to "C" (Road) - "A" to "mt" - "C" to "F" - "C" to "A" - "B" to "mt" - "F" to "D" (Fill) - "F" to "D" (Vernal Pools) - "C" to "E" p-1 - "C" to "E" p-2 - "D" to "C" - "D" to "E" - "E" to "F" - "PARK" to "M" - "M" to "B" - "C" to "B" p-1 - "C" to "B" p-2 - "mt" to "S" - "S" to "PARK" - "X" to "Z" the Surficial Geology page PDF version (opens a new window)
