Although the Mount Holyoke summit house has seen busier days, the picnic area provides spectacular views of Northampton, Amherst, and the rich valley farmland to the north. The Metacomet - Monadnock trail follows much of the basalt ridge that lies in the center of the Connecticut River valley.
